Beauty Industry West honors Michael Dubin, Founder & CEO of Dollar Shave Club as the 2015 Entrepreneur of the Year at their annual Awards Luncheon. Attendees will view engaging videos that launched the Dollar Shave Club concept, whose membership has grown to over 1.7 Million since its launch in 2012. Previous Entrepreneur of the Year Award recipients include other West Coast industry leaders: Jane Wurwand, Founder of Dermalogica, Scott Vincent Borba, Founder of Borba Cosmetics, and Ole Henriksen, Founder of Ole Henriksen Skin Care, to name just a few. Recipients are selected based upon their brand’s unique positioning, innovative marketing and initial market success versus other brands in their category. Dollar Shave Club achieved an 8% market share as well as establishing ground-breaking advancements in the razor and shaving accessories market with Monthly shipments at a savings.

Michael Dubin is a passionate, creative entrepreneur, executive and trailblazing brand-builder with a unique style, an engaging voice plus the ability to create content that clearly resonates with men in the digital world. Under his leadership, DSC has become a $150 Million dollar business in less than 3 years, boasting 1.7 Million active members (as of March 2015). Dollar Shave Club is the first Men’s brand to receive BIW’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award since its establishment 24 years ago.
The company has previously been recognized with several prestigious designations and awards including two Webbys, a CLIO, and was selected to Ad Age’s 2014 Marketers A-List alongside major established brands such as Under Armour and Kohls, and previously won their “Best Out of Nowhere” Video Award in 2012. In 2013, DSC successfully launched two men’s grooming products including Dr. Carver’s Easy Shave Butter and One Wipe Charlies, followed by Dr. Carver’s Magnanimous Post-Shave All-In-One Daily Moisturizer in 2014. In 2015, DSC is launching a line of Haircare products under the brand name Boogie’s, with a personalized questionnaire to aid customized selections on line.
Michael began his career as an NBC page, followed by an editorial stint at MSNBC news. He transitioned into Digital Marketing, developing custom content for brand advertisers including Gatorade, EA and on behalf of Time Inc., properties such as SI.com. Just before Dollar Shave Club, Dubin worked in the video seeding space, creating and driving engagement to branded content made by the likes of LG, Ford, Capital One, Taco Bell and other major brands.
Dubin is passionate about content, comedy and entertainment, having studied Improv and Sketch for over 8 years at the Upright Citizens Brigade in NY. He has a BA in History from Emory University and lives happily in Venice, CA but misses the thunderstorms of the East Coast.
